Over a week into the NFL's free agency period, the Indianapolis Colts have made a handful of outside free agent signings. Let's take a look at how these players graded out by Pro Football Focus' metrics last season.

Below is a look at PFF's grading system for some context. While this metric is very helpful when it comes to quantifying a player's performance, PFF's grading system isn't the be-all and end-all either. It is one metric out of many that are out there.

  • 90.0+: Elite
  • 80-89.9: High quality
  • 70-79.9: Good
  • 60-69.9: Above average
  • 50-59.9: Average
  • 40-49.9: Below average
  • 39.9 or less: Poor

Now, here is how the Colts' five new free agent signings graded out in 2025.

DE Arden Key

PFF grade: 63.7

Last season, Key recorded 33 pressures, which ranked tied for 64th among edge defenders. He would rank 77th in PFF's pass rush win rate metric and, for what it's worth, graded out well in run defense grade.

DE Micheal Clemons

PFF grade: 59.9

Clemons recorded 22 pressures and two sacks last season. Among defensive ends, he ranked 94th in pressures and 86th in win rate. Clemons had a run defense grade of 58.6.

IDL Derrick Nnadi

PFF grade: 43.6

Nnadi has been a run-first defender throughout his career. He ranked 101st among defensive tackles in run defense grade in 2025 and 125th in run-stop rate.

S Jonathan Owens

PFF grade: 48.6

Of note, Owens played only 47 defensive snaps last season, so his grade is based on a very small sample size. In 2024, Owens played 429 snaps on defense, recording a grade of 66.5.

S Juanyeh Thomas

PFF grade: 60.0

Thomas' season ended early due to injury. Before that, he had made three consecutive starts, and on the year, he played 264 total snaps. In coverage, Thomas was targeted just three times on 156 coverage snaps, allowing 9.0 yards per catch. He also graded out well against the run.
