Penguins injury update: Lizotte to be re-evaluated in four weeks

The Penguins will have their depth tested, celebrated fourth line center Blake Lizotte will be out of the lineup for a while, reportedly to be re-evaluated in four weeks due to an undisclosed upper body injury.

Should Lizotte stick to that timeline, he would miss the rest of the regular season that ends on April 14th. Injury situations have been fluid, with Justin Brazeau recently turning a ‘week-to-week’ injury into a nine day absence from the lineup. Back in January, Erik Karlsson returned to the lineup a bit quicker than the initial prognosis of his re-evaluation period.

However, Lizotte might not be bucking those trends – The Athletic’s Josh Yohe saw Lizotte’s right hand in a cast yesterday, suggesting some healing time will be in order.

The Penguins responded to Lizotte’s injury by shifting Connor Dewar to center and using trade pickup Elmer Soderblom on the fourth line with veteran staple Noel Acciari. That new-look fourth line did incredibly well, factoring in on two goals in the 7-2 win over Colorado (Dewar notched two assists, Soderblom and Acciari each produced a goal and an assist). Due to Lizotte’s injury that fourth line will have an opening for the next several weeks and Soderblom might be the fit for it with his size and ability.
