The New England Patriots announced that they have placed veteran wide receiver Mack Hollins on injured reserve.

That means Hollins will have to miss at least four games before he would be eligible to return. He wouldn't be back until the AFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl, depending on what seed the Patriots draw in the postseason.

It's a tough blow to the offense considering how reliable Hollins has been for second-year quarterback Drake Maye. He has been one of the more underrated offseason signings that have panned out across the NFL. Before the injury, Hollins was having one of the best seasons of his NFL career with 46 catches for 550 yards and two touchdowns.

Along with putting Hollins on injured reserve, the Patriots also announced that they have signed defensive tackle Jeremiah Pharms Jr. to the 53-man roster, and they also elevated both cornerback Kobee Minor and defensive lineman Leonard Taylor III to the active roster.

The Patriots have already ruled out seven players, including multiple starters, for Sunday's game against the New York Jets. With Hollins sidelined, the team will likely turn to rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams to step up on offense.
