FOXBOROUGH — The New England Patriots could get back a veteran linebacker this week.
Jahlani Tavai, who was placed on injured reserve to start the 2025 season, is set to practice this week, opening his 21-day window.
"I expect him to practice," Vrabel said. "I don't have an update on the game, but he will return to practice."
He suffered a calf injury during 11-on-11 drills in June. The team also has an open spot on the 53-man roster, which is expected to be reserved for Tavai.
Tavai began his career with the Detroit Lions, being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft out of the University of Hawaii. After two seasons, the linebacker was released, but was signed to the Patriots' practice squad shortly after. He quickly earned a spot on the active roster and has remained there for the past four seasons.
In his seventh year, Tavai currently has 424 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four interceptions across 95 games played.
