Seems like everyone is posting their shots at the Cards draft. Here's mine. It's not necessarily what I think the Cards will do, but rather what I'd like to see them do.
I didn't take a WR until late because after 1st round prospects, I don't think there's anyone in the draft who I think is better than McAddley/Gilmore.
So, without further ado, here's Pariah's Picks. Flame away!!
1. Byron Leftwich QB, Marshall--Plenty said about him already. I'm buying into the poor workouts and dropping stock of Suggs.
Other possible options: Newman, Suggs, Trufant
2. Kenny Peterson DT, Ohio State--I opted for a DT here rather than a DE because I think the value is better. Peterson has been called a 'tweener. He'd be a good run stopping end or a pass rushing tackle for us.
Other possible options: Ty Warren (DT), Chris Kelsay (DE), Rashean Mathis (CB)
3. Tully Banta-Cain DE, Cal--A pure pass-rushing DE, and if he can bulk up some, possibly a poor man's T. Suggs. In my scenario we would absolutely need to take a DE here, and I think there are some interesting prospects.
Other possible options: Calvin Pace (DE), Clint Mitchell (DE)
4. Todd Johnson, S, Fla.--This guy supports the run well and defends the deep middle like a pitbull. Could be a good backup to Jackson/Wilson.
Other possible options: Roderick Barbers (CB), Matt Walters (DT/DE), Billy McMullen (WR)
5. Wayne Lucier, C, Colorado--Ive had a chance to see this kid almost every week in Denver. He's a great athlete and could play a bunch of different positions on the line. A great addition in the 5th.
Other possible options: Cato June (S), Charles Tillman (CB)
6. Cal Morris, WR, Harvard--I'm probably going to take some heat for not drafting a WR until the late rounds. Morris has potential to be a sleeper--great size, leaping ability and smarts.
Other possible options: Mike Bush (WR), Walter Young (WR)Chris Vance (WR)
7. Ryan Hoag, Gustavus College, WR--Fast, pretty tall, good runner after the catch (at least that's what people are saying, I can't say I've seen him).
Other possible options: Michael Hayes (WR), CecilMoore (WR)
