GREEN BAY − Brian Gutekunst, no stranger to the extension before training camp timeline, is back at it again.
The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt on a three-year, $57 million extension, according to NFL Network. The deal reportedly will pay $20 million in the first year.
In new money, the extension places Wyatt as the 15th-highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.
Wyatt was scheduled to enter final year of his rookie contract in 2026 after the 2022 first-round pick had his fifth-year option exercised last year.
Though injuries have been an issue, Wyatt has ascended as the Packers’ best interior defensive lineman. He likely would have held that spot last year even if the team did not send veteran Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys as part of the trade that brought Micah Parsons. Wyatt has 14.5 sacks the past three seasons.
He’s appeared to be on the verge of a substantial breakout in each of the past two years, if not for injuries. Wyatt missed six games last season after fracturing his fibula and tearing ligaments in his left ankle late in a Thanksgiving Day win at the Detroit Lions. He missed three games with a knee injury in 2024.
Wyatt’s extension is reminiscent of the Packers reaching a deal with Zach Tom shortly before training camp a year ago. The Packers’ next order of business could be reaching a deal with tight end Tucker Kraft, who is scheduled for a potential extension.
