INDIANAPOLIS -- Two days before their first game in Las Vegas and after their camp to prepare for NBA Summer League, the Pacers have a change in coaching staff that forces them to appoint a new summer league head coach.

Assistant coach Johnny Carpenter, who served as head coach of the summer league squad throughout camp, has accepted a position with the Milwaukee Bucks as assistant coach and head of player development. Bryce Taylor, who was promoted from assistant to head coach of the Pacers' G League affiliate the Noblesville Boom earlier this summer, will take over as summer league head coach. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle announced the move through Pacers PR staff.

Carpenter joined the Pacers' staff before the 2025-26 season coming over from the Memphis Grizzlies, filling the vacancy left open when Mike Weinar unexpectedly left the organization. Carlisle said in a released quote that the Pacers will "adjust and promote from within to cover Johnny's departure."

"The Bucks' offer to Johnny was a clear step up in responsibility and therefore received the organization's blessing," Carlisle said through the release. "We thank Johnny and his family for a great year with the Pacers and wish them the very best."
