After watching the USA men's hockey team defeat Canada in the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson is feeling inspired.

Before playing for Team USA at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, the former AL Rookie of the Year made his intentions clear about playing in the 2028 Olympics.

"After watching that hockey game, that's definitely something that's a top priority," Henderson told Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is optimistic that Major League players will have the opportunity to participate in 2028.

Henderson is not alone​

Several other MLB players have spoken out about their desire to play in the 2028 Olympics. Most notably, Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper. The first baseman will be one of Henderson's countless All-Star teammates in the WBC.

If Major League players are permitted to play, Harper will undoubtedly be the leading force in the USA's recruitment.

Baseball was absent at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, and the USA took home the silver medal after losing to Japan in the gold medal game at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Starting pitcher Shane Baz, now a member of the Orioles, was on the USA's roster in 2020.
