The Oregon Ducks (18-3, 6-1 Big Ten) didn’t waste any time dismantling Northwestern (7-10-1, 1-3 Big Ten) in the series opener, and now they’ll aim to win the series in game two today at PK Park.

The No. 21 Ducks are winners of seven in a row and are undefeated so far on this three-series homestand. Oregon crushed the Wildcats yesterday, 20-6, in a game in which the Ducks mashed four home runs and scored 10 runs in the first inning. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the run rule.

Angel Laya continued his phenomenal season with a double and his eighth home run of the season, making him just two shy of the freshman record at Oregon of 10, held by shortstop Maddox Molony. Laya had five RBI in the opener after moving up to fifth in the batting order.

Will Sanford struggled with his command, but never let Northwestern put stress on the bases against him. In five innings, Sanford managed to punch eight tickets and secure his fourth of the season.

It’s been nearly a full year since the Ducks last lost a weekend series. Oregon has won 11 straight weekend sets dating back to last season. Their most recent weekend series loss came at Ohio State last season on March 29.

The Ducks will lean on right-hander Collin Clarke (3-1, 2.27 ERA), who has been a workhorse so far this season. He’s thrown at least six innings in four of his five starts this season. Last weekend against Indiana, Clarke tossed seven innings and allowing just two hits and one run with six strikeouts.

Northwestern has yet to announce a starter for game two.
