When it comes to Final (and Frozen) Fours, there is one.
Soon, there could be two.
There is only one school whose men's and women's basketball teams and hockey team all have made at least one Division I Final (or Frozen) Four, and that school is Michigan State.
Now, Michigan has a chance to become the second — and the first to have all three do it in the same year.
The men's basketball team will play its Elite Eight game against Tennessee on Sunday, while Michigan hockey will play Minnesota-Duluth for a spot in the Frozen Four, also Sunday. The women's basketball team advanced to its second Elite Eight with a 71-52 win over Louisville on Saturday, and will play Texas or Kentucky on Monday.
Michigan men's basketball (eight appearances, most recently in 2018) and hockey (28 appearances, most recently in 2024) have made the Final/Frozen Four many times. Michigan women's basketball has never made it.
This is the first time Michigan men's and women's basketball both made the Elite Eight in the same season.
Michigan State men's and women's basketball both made the Final Four in 2005, which was the only appearance for the Spartans' women's basketball program. Men's basketball has made nine Final Fours (most recently in 2019), while hockey has made 11 Frozen Fours (most recently in 2007).
▶ Men's basketball (34-3), vs. Tennessee, 2:15 p.m. Sunday (CBS)
▶ Hockey (30-7-1), vs. Minnesota-Duluth, 5:30 p.m. Sunday (ESPN)
▶ Women's basketball (28-6), vs. Texas or Kentucky, 7 p.m. Monday (TBD)
