The Oklahoma City Thunder saw their bid for a repeat championship come up short, falling in seven games to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 Western Conference Finals.

“As much as the idea of Thunder splurging for Giannis to counter Wemby might make sense on paper, league sources with knowledge of the Thunder’s thinking continue to dismiss them as a legitimate Giannis Antetokounmpo suitor,” Fischer wrote in his article.
OKC finished as the No. 1 seed with a 64-18 record, and there is little reason for the franchise to panic despite their playoff disappointment. While Holmgren struggled in the matchup against Wembanyama and the loss to the Spurs exposed some concerns, Oklahoma City still looks firmly positioned among the league’s top contenders. The gap between these two teams is not as wide as the series result might suggest, and the Thunder remain in strong shape moving forward.
