Rolling out the Opening Night schedule, it didn't take Nostradamus to pencil in the Oklahoma City Thunder as a participant. Two days before the entire 2027-26 regular season is dropped, the NBA announced a few marquee matchups.

The Thunder will travel on the road to face the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, Oct. 20. It will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock with an 8:30 p.m. CT tip-off. In a rare three-game Opening Night showcase, the other two games will be the Boston Celtics at the Detroit Pistons and the Philadelphia 76ers at the New York Knicks.

Of course, the Thunder and Spurs are fresh off an epic seven-game series duel. OKC fell in a Game 7 loss to San Antonio in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. Both teams are expected to be regular-season win machines once again and are universally viewed as the co-title favorites.

This time, the Thunder should have Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell healthy. They both missed most of their playoff clash due to injuries. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama are the headliners. Both should headline this year's MVP race once more.

Excited to see how the Thunder look on Opening Night. Even though it counts as just one game in the NBA standings, it's a good litmus test to see if OKC can match up fairly with San Antonio. Those two teams should dominate the title contender conversation all year.
