In the category of news you may not have even known was a thing, Ohio State mascot Brutus Buckeye took home the D1A Mascot national championship at the UCA & UDA National Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
These things are judged, and we're not quite sure what the criteria are, but we have the video of the performance that garnered Brutus a score of 95.2 in front of the folks in Central Florida on Sunday. The effort edged him ahead of Minnesota's Goldy Gopher (95.06) and Smoky from Tennessee (94.86).
The Cincy Bearcat (4), Auburn's Aubie the Tiger (5), Bucky Badger from Wisconsin (6), Alabama's Big Al (7), the Nittany Lion from Penn State (8), Boomer from Oklahoma (9), and Texas' Hook 'em (10), rounded out the top ten. The unofficial mascot for Michigan, an NCAA notice of allegations, did not enter for the Wolverines.
You can watch Brutus' performance below. Eat your heart out, football team.
As Urban Meyer once said, if they're keeping score in anything, we want to be first, so yeah, we'll take it.
