Being from Rhode Island, Elijah Guertin’s recruitment got off to a bit of a slow start until schools were able to see him during the spring evaluation period. It was then that offers from schools came in by the boatload, with programs like Michigan State, Illinois, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, UVA, and a bunch of other extending offers. Guertin ended up focusing on four schools: North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Penn State. It was the latter two that this thing really came down to, with Guertin officially visiting Florida last weekend and then Penn State this weekend. As you can guess based on this article, the Nittany Lions won out as Guertin pledged to the 2027 class earlier this morning.

Despite the three-star rating from Rivals (they have an update coming in the next few days, I believe) and ESPN just not even really trying anymore, this is one of the bigger recruiting victories for Penn State. Guertin is exactly what the Nittany Lions want from their defensive ends — that is, big and athletic, with a bit more emphasis on the “big” part. Guertin at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds joins Carter Blatter who is 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, and they both profile as guys who will play edge at 260+ pounds.
