Official: Real Madrid Electoral Board approves Florentino Perez candidacy
In an official statement, the Real Madrid Electoral Board confirmed that it has unanimously approved the candidacy led by Florentino Perez for the presidential elections.
The decision was made during a meeting held this Saturday morning.
Minutes of the meeting
The club released an official explanation detailing the process. The session was chaired by Jose Manuel de Carlos Grau, with Juan Raúl Castellanos Tarragó acting as secretary.
According to the statement, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, Eduardo Fernandez de Blas, representing the candidacy of member number 1,484, Florentino Perez Rodriguez, appeared before the Electoral Board and submitted the required documentation.
The documents included:
- Formal presentation letter
- List of members composing the candidacy with signatures and explicit acceptance from every member
- Electoral program, officially received and stamped on May 22, 2026
The statement also clarified that no bank guarantee or pre-approval was requested because the candidacy is exempt under Article 40.C.5 of Real Madrid’s statutes.
After reviewing the submission in detail and confirming that it complied with all electoral requirements and legal regulations, the Electoral Board reached a unanimous decision.
The resolution stated: “To declare valid the candidacy presented by Eduardo Fernandez de Blas and headed by Florentino Perez Rodriguez, in accordance with Article 40 sections B and C of the club’s current statutes.”
The board also confirmed that the official acceptance notice had been sent electronically to the candidacy representative.
Perez aiming for an eighth term
Perez is now pursuing what would be his eighth presidential term, and his sixth consecutive one since 2009, although his current mandate has lasted only a year after he was re-elected as the sole candidate in January 2025.

Since returning to the presidency in 2009, he has repeatedly run unopposed. In fact, Real Madrid members have not voted in a contested presidential election since 2006, when Ramon Calderon narrowly defeated Juan Palacios.
Attention now turns to whether Enrique Riquelme will formally submit his candidacy and whether it would pass Electoral Board approval, with the deadline being today.
The Alicante-based businessman and executive president of Cox Energy is negotiating with Scotiabank and Andbank to secure the required €187 million guarantee demanded to enter the presidential race.
If unapproved, Perez will be announced as president unopposed once again.
