When Notre Dame steps on the floor on Friday for their Sweet Sixteen matchup against Vanderbilt, one player in particular may have a feeling of familiarity.

Guard Iyana Moore arrived to South Bend this past summer as a graduate transfer from Vanderbilt. In her senior season for the Commodores, she averaged 12.4-points, 2.7-rebounds, and 2.7-assists helping lead her team to a 22-11 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament. The previous season was even more impressive as she earned All-SEC Second-team honors averaging 14.2-points per game.

The transition to Notre Dame seems to have gone well for everyone involved. Iyana has stepped right into the Irish starting lineup and been a key contributor for a team that is currently 24-10 on the season and the No. 6 seed in their regional. Moore's stat line looks exactly of what was to be expected as she has contributed 12.2-points, 3.7-rebounds, and shooting almost 40% from 3-pointers.

Off the court, Moore has spoken about (sub required) the emotional complexity of this week: preparing for a Sweet 16 game is hard enough without the added layer of seeing former teammates and coaches on the other sideline. She has acknowledged the gratitude she feels for the opportunity Vanderbilt gave her, while making it clear that her focus now is on the Irish and on extending this run as long as possible.

When the ball tips off on Friday, Moore will be playing against players and a program that has helped develop her into the player and person she is today. But she will be wearing the jersey of a team and program she has entrusted to help her transition to become the person and player she is meant to be.
