Notable International Players Who Signed On Day 2 Of NHL Free Agency

Today was the second day of NHL free agency, and there were significantly fewer signings than on day one.

Yesterday, we saw 23 big-name players born outside of North America either sign with a new club or re-sign with their current team. Some of the biggest were Sergei Bobrovsky, signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs; Ivan Demidov, extended in Montreal; as well as Nico Hischier in New Jersey and Eetu Luostarinen in Florida.


On day two, there were only seven signings league-wide, and four of them were international players. So, let's take a look at their contracts.

• Alex Ovechkin - F - 1 Yr, $4.2M, - Washington Capitals
• Maxim Shabanov - F - 1 Yr, $1.6M - Minnesota Wild
• Leevi Merilainen - G - 1 Yr, $1.1M - Ottawa Senators
• Jakub Dobes - G - 3 Yrs, $16M - Montreal Canadiens

There weren't a lot of signings, but at least Ovechkin is back for one more season. That said, there still are a good number of International players remaining on the open market, as well as restricted free agents that need to re-sign with their respective clubs.
