He did the same thing at UNM.
That's because the Lobos are about as irrelevant as NAU.

When you can call any team in the country and get a home-and-home, you're not scheduling road games with the likes of Northern Arizona and New Mexico. Get a real program and Arizona will think about coming to your house.

The lobos were ranked #16 at the time that Lute decided to not play UNM again. He was upset over getting beat in the PIT.

This my friend shows how delusional and full of yourself U of A fans following Lute have become.

New Mexico is a VERY relevant program - even more so back when Lute ended the series. The Pit has an outstanding reputation as a tough court to play in, and New Mexico has a great tradition.

Before Lute took the program to new heights, UNM was by far the better program, and will be again after Lute officially leaves.

If Lute is such a "pathetic" coach, shouldn't the Cats get better after he retires?

New Mexico will be better than UA? LOL! Based on what? Their 82-69 record the last five years playing in the Mountain West?

Meanwhile, the UofA have been 118-45 during that span while playing in a much tougher conference. Sorry, but New Mexico is a second-tier program.

Jon, we know it is frustrating watching the Cats beat up on the Slumberjokes and Whinini every season, but your Lute/UA bashing is really starting to make you look foolish.

Okay. The only times the Lobos were good was under the guide of model citizens such as Dave Bliss and Norm Ellenberger. How'd everything turn out with those scumbags? Two real winners right there, a guy who fixes transcripts and another who told his players to lie to the police about their teammate being a drug dealer. These are the two winningest coaches in New Mexico history - what a program.:lmao:

Care to back this one up with anything? Both schools were marginal WAC teams in the '70s and since then Arizona has risen up under Lute, joined and dominated an elite conference, and become one of them most profitable and well-recognized hoops programs in the country while UNM has had one decent run in the '90s under a complete tool of a head coach who later left Albuquerque to take the highly sought after Baylor job. Tell me why again UNM will be better than UA? The Lobos have never even made the Sweet 16 and they tried to hire lameduck Rob Evans out of ASU and couldn't even land him. Meanwhile, here we are in 2007 and Arizona Basketball is without Lute Olson and we're still miles ahead of New Mexico in every possible facet.

And this is essentially where New Mexico and NAU fan's lingerining bitterness comes from - they're still pissed off at UA and ASU leaving their sorry athletic departments in the dust years ago while we pursued bigger and better things like joining a real conference and becoming top athletic departments in the NCAA. Of course we won't travel there, New Mexico and NAU are small-time and UA/ASU haven't been since the late '70s. We have bigger fish to fry, sorry for that dose of reality Lumberjoke and Blobo fans.

It's called an inferiority complex. It's a trait common in NAU and New Mexico fans who are still bitter about their one-time state and local rivals going on to bigger and better things and leaving them to fight for table scraps in the Big Sky and WAC/MWC.

I never said the lobos were as good a program as AZ. The PIT is a pretty tough place to play even for the far superior AZ Wildcats. Probably why Lute took his ball and went home.
