The Chargers addressed several issues on the roster early in free agency, but the team has yet to find a solution at left guard. Los Angeles signed Cole Strange, who is the presumed starting right guard. Trevor Penning is an option to start on the left side, but it's wise to bring in competition.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell believes Kevin Zeitler could fill the hole at the position, suggesting general manager Joe Hortiz signs the veteran after June 1, which would then protect the third-round compensatory pick the team is getting from edge rusher Odafe Oweh, who signed with the Commanders.
If Zeitler is still on the market, adding the veteran guard would be a no-brainer for the Chargers. If not, well, Hortiz might need to be looking at training camp cuts to add a guard," Barnwell writes.
The Chargers could also look to the draft to address the position, potentially in the first round with someone like Penn State's Vega Ioane.
Zeitler spent the 2025 campaign with the Titans, recording a 74.5 overall Pro Football Focus grade (13th among qualified guards). The 36-year-old ranked in the top 10 in pass blocking grade (75.4).
While he is up there in age, Zeitler has played double-digit games in all 14 years of his NFL career.
He is projected to sign a one-year, $9 million contract in free agency.
