The New York Giants have drawn a plan of action for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. After trading up in the 2025 NFL Draft to select the Ole Miss product with the No. 25 overall pick, they will make him sit out his rookie season and let Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston compete for the starting role while mentoring Dart.

As the second quarterback drafted in this year's draft, the expectations are high for Dart, but fans will have to wait to see him on the field.

Reports indicated that the Giants were high on Dart, even when Sedeur Sanders was still considered a first-round pick. Now, their plan is to be patient and give their new quarterback all the time that he needs to learn the X's and O's of the league.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen likened the plans they have for Dart to what they wanted to do with Josh Allen in Buffalo. Back in 2018, Schoen was an assistant general manager with the Bills while Brian Daboll was the offensive coordinator.

The rookie Allen was originally planned to learn as much as possible during his first season, but extraordinary circumstances forced the team to accelerate his debut.

"We've been through this, we went through it with Josh Allen," Schoen said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio. "We had a little bit different quarterback room at the time, but he was going to sit his rookie year and then halftime of the opening game we're getting smoked by Baltimore, so we put him in and the rest was history. So that plan didn't go as well, but we didn't have a Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston in the room.

"So again, Jaxson's going to come in, he's got to learn the offense, there's a lot to learn, these NFL offenses are hard to grasp and pick up and then be able to go out and execute, so the ability for him to learn and sit behind two consummate pros already will be beneficial for him."

Even though he also struggled to find rhythm during his first season, Allen showed glimpses of his potential. The Bills didn't give up on him and now they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league and the reigning MVP.

Dart landed in a different situation, as Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are so much better than AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman, the two QBs who shared the room with Allen.

The last time the Giants had an Ole Miss quarterback as their franchise cornerstone, they won two Super Bowls.
