This offseason, The Athletic's Mike Sando surveyed 50 members of NFL teams to rank the league's quarterbacks into five tiers. Sando spoke with 21 executives and 29 coaches to formulate the results.
Only four quarterbacks — Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow — landed in Tier 1. Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix landed in Tier 3, the same placement he had in 2025. Overall, Nix was the 18th-ranked QB, which is a two-spot improvement from when he was No. 20 last year.
Nix received one Tier 1 vote (from a head coach), 21 votes for Tier 2 and 28 votes for Tier 3. So he wasn't far away from breaking into the second tier. Nix was ranked behind three other members of his draft class — Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels — who all landed in Tier 2.
“I like his command, his confidence,” a head coach told Sando. “Yeah, the scheme helps him, but still, you just can’t plug anybody in there to make that scheme go.”
