NFL analyst says Rams must nail this goal in 2026 draft

The Los Angeles Rams are pretty much loaded at every position on their roster heading into the 2026 NFL draft. It's a great position to be in, but it also means the team needs to start thinking about depth and longevity when it comes to the construction of the team.

Quarterback is the biggest one to consider, but this is the wrong draft to be thinking about succession. However, NFL.com's Gennaro Filice believes the Rams need to look at accomplishing a different goal this year: Planning ahead at wide receiver.

Davante Adams is heading into a contract season at age 33, while Puka Nacua recently entered rehab with one year remaining on his rookie deal. Even if you operate under the assumption that the Rams ultimately will extend Nacua, this receiver room could use another playmaker for 2026 and beyond. Los Angeles can target one of this draft's top wideouts at No. 13 overall or address the position on Day 2. Given the depth of this WR class, the Rams should have alluring options available at Nos. 61 and 93. L.A., of course, snagged Nacua down at No. 177 three years ago, but it's hard to get rich if you're only mining for hidden gems.

It doesn't help that the Rams reportedly shopped Adams during their trade discussions for A.J. Brown. They're clearly aware that something needs to change with the receiver room in 2026 and beyond. While Nacua and Adams appear to be coming back as Matthew Stafford's top targets, the room is thin behind him with only Konata Mumpfied, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith behind them as experienced players.

Enter the 2026 draft, where many experts predict the Rams will take a receiver at No. 13. The prevailing theory is USC's Makai Lemon (if he's available), but other options have been floated — from Carnell Tate or Jordy Tyson to Denzel Boston and KC Concepcion.

There's a lot of smoke around the Rams taking a pass-catcher at No. 13, so it stands to reason they may want to accomplish this goal as quickly as possible and give themselves a solid plan for the future of their receiver room, regardless of who the quarterback is after Stafford.
