The New York Giants were awarded a compensatory draft selection in last week's NFL draft. It was awarded by the NFL for losing safety Xavier McKinney to Green Bay lay March in free agency .

The selection was No. 99 overall, near the end of the third round on Day 2. They never got to use the pick as it was shipped off to Houston in the deal to move up to draft Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

They likely won't have such ammunition in next year's draft.

Based on Over The Cap's projection of which teams will be awarded compensatory picks next season, the Giants won't be getting any. They will be on the outside looking in. They won't be able to recoup the other pick, a 2026 third-round pick, they gave Houston in the Dart deal.

The compensatory free agent period ended on Monday after the draft, so it is complete now. Any qualifying free agent who signs with a new team going forward will not be included in the draft compensation formula.

The Giants' final scorecard is one CFA lost (linebacker Azeez Ojulari, who signed with the Eagles) and six CFAs gained: quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, cornerback Paulson Adebo, safety Jevon Holland, linebacker Chauncey Golston, and offensive lineman James Hudson III.

The Giants won't benefit from the deadline nor be hurt by it. They didn't really have any (or enough) free agents to offset general manager Joe Schoen's shopping spree last month. The upside is they can't worsen their lot by signing more big ticket names.
