It's almost time to raise the roof at the new Titans stadium.
Construction progress at the new Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans is progressing along schedule, and a good chunk of the interior structure has been erected as of a tour granted to select media on March 24. The process of enclosing the stadium is on its way, with a grid of cables laid out along what will end up becoming the playing surface. The cables will be ready for lift in May, with the expectation that the stadium will be fully enclosed in September or October.
The new Nissan Stadium is still scheduled to open to the public in Feb. 2027. Titans CEO Burke Nihill said that the grand opening event at the new Titans stadium will be "some kind of ticketed show," electing not to be more specific about the plans, but also said there will be fan events to introduce the venue to locals and ticket holders.
Over the course of the March 24 tour, media were granted views of the 100 level and 300 level concourses, as well as the area that will become the Titans' locker room. Some of the hallmarks of what the stadium will become are already in place, most notably the 360-degree field visibility when standing on any of the concourses. Nihill and new stadium project executive Kellen DeCoursey boasted about the basins being in place for everything from the team store to the elevators and escalators, both of which will represent major areas of improvement from the current Nissan Stadium structure.
The main team store, for example, will be two stories tall and roughly 11,000 square feet along the stadium's south plaza. There will also be four "satellite team stores" as smaller entry points to buy gear, all of which will be roughly the same size as the existing team store at current Nissan Stadium. The level of improvements are even easier to recognize with the escalators and elevators. Whereas the old Nissan Stadium has four escalators and six elevators, the new arena will feature 44 escalators and 27 elevators. That's not counting freight and service entrances.
Similar improvements are being built into the Titans' locker room. The room is 50% bigger. The lockers themselves are 1.5 times bigger than average. The room is designed with meeting functionality in mind, so much so that the architecture was drawn to skip a load-bearing beam that should've fell in the middle of the room. Instead, weight and support have been redistributed for the center of the room to be spacious and allow for players to get their pre-game stretching and exercise-table work done without leaving for the hallway, as often has to be the case now.
One other new note revealed at the tour is the way the Titans plan to honor local football history: On a wall up on the 300 concourse, the Titans will hoist a mural that honors Tennessee high school football by putting up the helmets or logos of every program in the state, a mural which will eventually include girls' flag football programs as well as the football programs.
The Titans will play the 2026 season at the existing Nissan Stadium structure, their final year in the stadium that's housed the franchise since moving to Nashville in 1999.
