Week 3 of the NFL season includes a home game for the New Orleans Saints, their first of the year. On September 27, the Saints will host the Las Vegas Raiders after opening their season with road games against the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens. It will be their second straight of five total games against an AFC opponent in 2026.

This season will mark the 17th all-time meeting between the Saints and Raiders. It's a series that's encompassed Oakland over two spans, Los Angeles, and since their 2020 relocation to Las Vegas. New Orleans is coming off a 6-11 record under then-new head coach Kellen Moore last season, winning four of their last five contests. The Raiders went 3-14 in 2025, the worst record in the league to earn them the first overall choice in the draft. It was their fourth consecutive losing season, and one that caused a coaching change to a familiar face for New Orleans fans. Here is a look at the brief history between these teams.

Saints vs. Raiders series history

  • Overall: 7-8-1
  • Home: 4-4-1
  • Last 10 matchups: 5-5
  • Last 5 matchups: 2-3
  • Last meeting (2024): Raiders (25-10)

New Orleans has faced off against the Raiders just two previous times prior to this year's matchup on September 27. One of those was in the Superdome to open the 2016 season, won by the Oakland Raiders by a 35-34 score despite 423 passing yards and 4 touchdowns from quarterback Drew Brees, including a franchise-record 98-yard scoring toss to Brandin Cooks. The other September meeting was in 2020, in the first NFL game played in Las Vegas. That was also won by the Raiders in a 34-24 win, in spite of Brees throwing for 312 yards.

This season will mark the fourth time the Saints have met the Raiders since that move to Las Vegas. The Raiders have won two of those meetings, which included the 25-10 win in New Orleans when these teams last faced in 2024. The Saints last beat the Raiders in 2022, taking a 24-0 victory in New Orleans. Prior to their move to Las Vegas, New Orleans had a 6-6-1 record against the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders. The only tie between these franchises took place in their first ever meeting during the 1971 season, a 21-21 split at Tulane Stadium.

Probably the most memorable meeting between the Saints and Raiders took place on a Monday night late in the 1979 campaign. New Orleans raced out to a 35-14 lead midway through the third quarter. However, the Oakland Raiders came storming back behind spectacular performances from future Hall of Famers Ken Stabler and Cliff Branch. By the time the fireworks settled, Oakland had taken a 42-35 win.

After the Raiders finished with an NFL-worst 3-14 record in 2025, the team made another coaching change. New head coach for Las Vegas is Klint Kubiak, who was offensive coordinator for the Saints for one season in 2024 during the last Saints-Raiders meeting. Joining Kubiak in Vegas will be Andrew Janocko and Rick Dennison, who were also on the 2024 New Orleans offensive staff.
