Nebraska men's basketball (26-5, 15-5) enters the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday evening. The Huskers will face the Purdue Boilermakers (24-8, 14-7) at the United Center in Chicago.
The Huskers are the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament. It's the second time in the last three years that the Huskers have finished in the conference's top three. Nebraska is 6-13 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament. The program's best performance was the 2024 tournament, when the Huskers lost in the semifinals to Illinois.
This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season. Earlier this year, Nebraska hosted Purdue in Lincoln and lost in overtime 80-77. Nebraska forced overtime after erasing a 22-point first-half deficit. Purdue smashed Nebraska out of the gate, opening up the first half on a 14-1 run before heading into halftime up 40-24.
Nebraska stepped up, allowing only 28 points in the second half, but couldn't close in overtime, falling 12-9 in the final five minutes. Rienk Mast led the Huskers on the night, with 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Now, Nebraska gets a chance at payback with a trip to the Big Ten Tournament semifinal on the line. The Husker offense enters the game averaging 77.9 points per game while shooting .467 from the field and .354 from the 3-point line. The defense surrenders an average of 66.0 points per game.
Iowa transfer Pryce Sandfort enters Friday's game averaging a team-best 17.9 points. He also averages 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Forward Rienk Mast ranks second on the Cornhuskers in scoring average (13.6) and rebounding average (5.9).
Purdue is led by Braden Smith, who averages 14.6 points, 9.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. Fletcher Loyer and Tre Kaufman-Renn also contribute with 13.7 and 13.6 points, respectively.
The Huskers and the Boilermakers will tip off on the Big Ten Network at 5:30 p.m. CT.
