Nebraska men's basketball picked up numerous Big Ten accolades on Tuesday ahead of the conference tournament. Head coach Fred Hoiberg received one of the biggest awards, being named Big Ten Coach of the Year as selected by Big Ten Coaches.
This is Hoiberg's second Big Ten coach of the year award, winning his first back in the 2023-2024 season. He earns this year's accolade following one of the best seasons in Nebraska history. The Huskers finished the regular season 26-5, winning their first 20 games and setting a school-record 24-game win streak, dating back to last season's College Basketball Crown. The team also reached a program-best No. 5 AP ranking this season.
Hoiberg's 26 wins this season surpassed the total amount of wins he collected across his first three seasons with Nebraska. This is also the Huskers' third straight 20-win season and third straight year guaranteed a postseason trip.
Nebraska also tied for second in the Big Ten after entering the season projected to finish 14th. The Huskers finished 15-5 in Big Ten play, setting a school record for conference wins.
Hoiberg also coached four players who earned Big Ten Honors. Pryce Sandfort made first-team All-Big Ten. Braden Frager made the Big Ten All-Freshman team and won 6th Man of the Year. Sam Hoiberg made the Big Ten All-Defensive Team and was All-Big Ten honorable mention, alongside Rienk Mast.
The Huskers begin the Big Ten Tournament on Friday evening as the No. 2 seed. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
