RALEIGH — UNC basketball freshman Caleb Wilson has made waves throughout the season with a bedazzled belt that he showed off after big wins against Kansas and Duke.

NC State and UNC transfer Ven-Allen Lubin kept that in mind before the 16th-ranked Tar Heels arrived in Raleigh on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Then, Lubin and the Wolfpack reminded UNC after an 82-58 win at Lenovo Center.

Following his first game against his former team, Lubin arrived in the media room with a red-and-white bedazzled belt around his neck as he sat down for the postgame press conference.

“It’s for the way we performed with what we left on the court out there,” said Lubin, who had 12 points and six rebounds in the Wolfpack’s second top-25 win of the season. “Shout out to the guys who made this belt for me, for the team. It just represents what we’re gonna continue to do to the rest of the teams this season.”

Quadir Copeland, who had 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds against the 16th-ranked Tar Heels (20-6, 8-5 ACC) said “it was a Ven day and everybody had Ven’s back.”

Copeland went even further in providing his thoughts on what the belt means to the Wolfpack (19-8, 10-4).

“They was talking a lot of, ‘North Carolina schools this, North Carolina schools that,’ ” Copeland said, referencing a viral clip of Wilson from the preseason in which UNC’s freshman said the Tar Heels were going to “put the belt on everybody.”

“It’s crazy how fast them tables turn. We bedazzled our belt, too, for ‘em.”

Before walking out of the media room, Lubin smiled one more time as he looked down at the belt. He's believed to be the first Tar Heel to make the roughly 25-mile move directly to NC State as a transfer.

“It’s something to remember,” Lubin said. “This is definitely one in the memory books for me.”
