The New York Knicks picked up a 94-93 win over the Detroit Pistons in Game 4 of their first-round playoff matchup to take a 3-1 series lead. Unfortunately for the Pistons, they lost this one despite deserving an opportunity to win at the buzzer.
The final play of the game saw Tim Hardaway Jr. save a broken possession with a corner three-point attempt, where he was blatantly fouled by Knicks forward Josh Hart. However, the foul went uncalled as the Knicks picked up the one-point win, much to the chagrin of the home-court Pistons fans.
The blow to the Pistons just got bigger. NBA referee David Guthrie, who was the crew chief for this game, confirmed in the post-game Pool Report.
"During live play, it was judged that Josh Hart made a legal defensive play. After postgame review, we observed that Hart makes body contact that is more than marginal to Hardaway Jr., and a foul should have been called."
This was a rough ending for the Pistons, who now face a nearly impossible task to get to the second round. They have to overcome a 3-1 deficit, giving them a 5% chance at advancing to the second round for the first time in 18 years.

Josh Hart did get away with a major foul, but it's not one he or the Knicks will lose sleep over now that the result is in their favor. Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff, as well as stars like Cade Cunningham, will be haunted with the 'what-ifs?' of this result.
