NBA Player Busted After 100-MPH ZR1 Chase: CopsRichard Prince
A brand-new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with NBA player Brandon Clarke behind the wheel allegedly blasted by police who were conducting another traffic stop. And according to a report by Corvette Blogger citing an arrest affadavit, it was the sound of the mighty Corvette that first caught the attention of the Cross County, Arkansas police.
Memphis's Action News 5 reports that police pursued the 29-year-old Memphis Grizzlies forward at speeds of more than 100 mph. Clarke was allegedly was weaving in and out of traffic and only pulled over after a second police deputy joined the pursuit; the basketball player was then boxed in by slower traffic, according to reports, and finally pulled over.
Police searched the Arctic White Corvette, and said they found over 400 capsules of Kratom in several bags labeled “100% pure Mitragyna speciosa.” Kratom is a plant-derived stimulant and painkiller, and Arkansas is one of five states where it is illegal and considered a Schedule I controlled substance. Deputies also reported finding a THC vape pen that tested positive for marijuana.
Clarke was initially charged with trafficking a controlled substance, fleeing in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, speeding, and improper passing. His Corvette was impounded and his bail was set at $25,000 which he posted on April 2.
The C8-gen ZR1 represents the cutting edge of American engineering, massive power, advanced aerodynamics, and track-ready capability. It’s a machine designed to dominate circuits and deliver unforgettable driving experiences. But as this incident shows, there is a time and place for that and it isn’t the public streets of Cross County, Arkansas. On the street, even a car with a 233-mph top speed can’t outrun traffic, radios, or consequences.
According to Commercial Appeal, Memphis Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo had nothing to say about the arrest. "I'm aware of the report, but don't have any comments," Iisalo told the media ahead of the April 1 game against the New York Knicks.
