Nationals sign ex-Astros, Orioles 4.81 ERA reliever for bullpen depth originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Washington Nationals added a reliever with three years of Major League experience to the organization over the weekend.
Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the NL East club signed right-hander Shawn Dubin to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old made his big league debut in 2023 with the Houston Astros and owns a 4.81 ERA in 64 appearances, including three starts. Washington assigned Dubin to Triple-A Rochester.
"The Nats’ bullpen is unsettled enough that there’s opportunity for Dubin to stick around if his contract is selected," Polishuk wrote Sunday. "Dubin’s history as a swingman and long reliever makes him a candidate to eat innings, and he has shown good-to-great strikeout ability in the minors, even if he has yet to miss many bats during his time in the majors."

Dubin struck out seven in eight innings for the Baltimore Orioles in 2025, but he elected free agency after the season.
He signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks during the offseason but was released just over a week ago after making two Triple-A outings.
