The Nationals' pitching staff hasn't been the healthiest to start the season, with five pitchers on the injured list: right-handers Josiah Gray (right flexor strain), Trevor Williams (right elbow sprain), Cole Henry (right rotator cuff strain), and left-handers DJ Hurtz (left UCL sprain), and Ken Waldichuk (left forearm tightness).
Because of the Nationals' injuries, they acquired pitching depth from a divisional opponent to add another arm to their bullpen.

According to the Nationals on X, they have acquired left-hander Richard Lovelady from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. Lovelady had been designated for assignment by the Mets on April 11 after going 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA in six games.
To make room for Lovelady on the active and 40-man roster, Waldichuk has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
