Week 2 of the Michigan Girls High School Flag Football League is in the books!
Hometown Life sports reporter Brandon Folsom is here to name the MVPs from each game around the region and explain why they stood out amongst the rest.
Reminder: HTL covers teams in Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Canton, Commerce Twp., Farmington, Farmington Hills, Garden City, Livonia, Milford, Northville, Novi, Plymouth, Redford, South Lyon, Wayne, Walled Lake, Westland, White Lake and Wixom.
Skyann Penn, Wayne: Had two interceptions, including a 16-yard return for a TD with 47 seconds left to seal the win for the Zebras. She also added a tackle for loss and 33 rushing yards, setting the tone as the team’s emotional leader. The deeper she gets into a game, the more Wayne responds.

Bayley Wiseley, Glenn: Played an all-around game, finishing with two catches for 44 yards, two rushes for 32 yards and two pass breakups. Her 12-yard TD on a reverse with 4:55 left tied the score at 12, but Wayne’s offense and defense were too much in crunch time.
Amiya Handy, Glenn: Four Rockets lined up at QB and attempted passes, but Handy got the start and looked good in the pocket. She went 5 of 7 for 41 yards, including an 8-yard TD to Paityn Smith, and also converted extra points to Aysia Jones and Addison Sayyae.
Emiya Franklin, Thurston: The Eagles’ defense forced five interceptions, two by Franklin. That included her picking off a pass in the end zone and racing the full 80 yards of the field for a TD. Offensively, she added two catches for 45 yards and a score.
Kayleigh Goodman, RU: While it was a letdown evening for the Panthers, Goodman stood out, catching three passes for 31 yards and a TD.
Olivia Willoughby, St. Mary’s: While the Eaglets couldn’t score against state power Belleville earlier in the day, they had no trouble in their next matchup against North. QB Reese Holton threw for 383 yards and seven TDs, with much of that production going to Willoughby, who finished with 12 catches for 167 yards, four TDs and four one-point conversions. She was also dominant on defense, returning an interception 22 yards for a score, breaking up a pass and recording three tackles for loss.
Chu Boaz, North: The Raiders struggled, but the junior stood out on defense. She finished with eight QB hurries on Holton and helped force many of St. Mary's 16 incompletions.
Aubrey Kirby, Novi: A week after the Wildcats couldn’t get into the end zone, Kirby accounted for two of their scores, finishing with 50 receiving yards while also leading the defense with 10 flag pulls.
Drew Whaley, Farmington: The Falcons didn’t look as competitive as they did against rival North Farmington, but Whaley still got them on the board with a 60-yard rushing TD.
Mikayla Roberts, P-CEP: Well, if coach Derek Hoffman feels Roberts should be the Detroit Lions’ Player of the Week, that says plenty. The Wayne State softball commit was lights out, going 4 of 4 passing for 162 yards and three TDs while also catching four passes for 34 yards.
Brooke Schabel, Northville: The Mustangs bounced back from a tough loss to rival P-CEP with a strong day through the air. Of QB Taylor Chrzanowski’s 150 passing yards, 120 went to Schabel, who finished with four catches and a TD. She also rushed for 42 yards and had two flag pulls on defense.
Kendyll Parker, Bloomfield: Thanks to another strong outing by QB Eva Kontos, who went 8 of 14 for 195 yards, three TDs and two extra points, Parker stood out against the Eagles. She caught three passes for 124 yards and two TDs.
Ella Kecskemeti, Groves: While Kel’ko Buskin continues to be the Falcons’ best all-around player, finishing with 108 passing yards and TD while also pulling eight flags, breaking up a pass and intercepting another, Ella Kecskemeti has also played well this spring. Coming off an ACL injury, the senior caught five passes for 59 yards and a one-point conversion, serving as a safety blanket for Buskin on key downs.
