The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is building excitement as the tournament heads to the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer. For the first time in history, 48 teams will compete in football’s biggest event, making it the largest World Cup ever staged. Traditional giants like Argentina, Brazil, France, England and Spain have already secured their spots, while new nations such as Uzbekistan and Jordan are preparing for their World Cup debuts. The host nation, the United States, qualified automatically and will look to make a strong run under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, having reached the Round of 16 in Qatar four years ago.
The tournament will also showcase a new generation of stars. Young talents like Nico Paz, Desire Doue, Endrick, Pedri and Nico O’Reilly are expected to shine on the global stage. At the same time, the United States Men’s National Team will rely on its own history and experience as it hosts the competition for the second time since 1994. Over the years, several American players have built memorable World Cup careers, representing the country across multiple tournaments and helping the USMNT earn respect on football’s biggest stage. Leading that list is Landon Donovan, who still holds the record for the most FIFA World Cup matches played by a USMNT player.
