Apr. 16—GRAND FORKS — For the first time in a decade, UND will have brothers on the hockey team.

Forward Gavin Lindberg is transferring from Colorado College to UND, where he will be teammates with his younger brother, Garrett, an incoming freshman defenseman.

The last set of brothers to be teammates at UND were Tucker and Colton Poolman during the 2016-17 season.

Gavin scored six goals and tallied 21 points in 36 games as a sophomore for Colorado College. He finished the season playing right wing on the Tigers' second line.

Gavin was second among Colorado College forwards in ice time per game (18:46). He tied for first on the team in plus-minus (plus-9).

Gavin's arrival helps fill UND's forward depth chart after David Klee and Cade Littler entered the NCAA transfer portal.

UND's staff should have plenty of insight into Gavin's game.

He played for UND associate head coach Matt Smaby and general manager Bryn Chyzyk in Waterloo (USHL) for two-and-a-half seasons. Lindberg finished third in scoring for Waterloo in 2023-24.

Lindberg also played for Smaby at the World Junior A Challenge.

The 6-foot, 195-pound forward is versatile. He's played both center and wing. He was Colorado College's most deployed penalty-killing forward. He also played on Colorado College's power play.

Lindberg is UND's second addition through the transfer portal this offseason.

The Fighting Hawks earlier picked up a commitment from defenseman Brasen Boser of Minot. Boser spent the last two seasons with Arizona State.

UND is still looking to add at least one forward from the transfer portal this offseason.
