Oklahoma's softball season came to an end Sunday as Mississippi State eliminated the Sooners from the NCAA Tournament in the Norman Super Regional, 6-0.
OU's loss snaps a streak of nine straight trips to the Women's College World Series. Mississippi State, coached by former Oklahoma first baseman Samantha Ricketts, will be making their first appearance in the WCWS.
The Bulldogs bled Oklahoma to death on Sunday in the clincher. They scored two runs in the second inning, one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. All three of OU's pitchers - Miali Giachino, Berkley Zache and Audrey Lowry - gave up at least one each apiece, with Giachino allowing the first four.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State starter Delainey Everett pitched her first career seven-inning complete game. She gave up just three hits while walking three and hitting two Oklahoma batters. The Sooners put a runner in scoring position in the second, third and sixth innings, but in each instance the runner made there with two outs and would go no farther.
OU's best chance came in the seventh after Isabela Emerling and Allyssa Parker was hit by a pitch. But Ailana Agbayani flew out to left field and Kai Minor grounded out to second base to send the Bulldogs rushing on to the Love's Field dirt.
The Sooners finished the season 52-10, losing double-digit games for the first time since 2014, and were shutout for the first time at home since 2015.
