Mike Macdonald provides update on Tory Horton’s injury timetable

Seattle Seahawks rookie receiver and returner Tory Horton only played half the season yet finished fourth in the regular season for total touchdowns. Unfortunately, a shin injury following a two-touchdown performance against the Washington Commanders proved unrecoverable for the remainder of the year.

Speaking with media at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald had some news of note to share regarding when Horton will return… or, more accurately, when he won’t return to action.

While the specifics and severity of Horton’s injury still remain largely unknown, it looks like the earliest we’ll see Horton is training camp in July.

Macdonald on WR/KR Tory Horton, who missed the second half of the season with a shin injury: "He got got fixed up, too. So we’re just working through it. He’s not going to do anything in the spring."

OTAs and mandatory minicamp are usually in May through mid-June, which is technically all in the spring. If the start of June is unofficial summer, then perhaps Horton could be around for minicamp.

While it would be nice to know more about Horton’s injury in terms of what he suffered, it doesn’t take much thinking to figure out that it was severe enough to (at least based on Macdonald’s warning) necessitate surgery. Horton had season-ending knee surgery at the end of his college career in 2024, which likely had an impact on his draft stock dropping to the fifth round.

The time to worry even a little bit re Horton is if he’s on the PUP list through this August. For now, it’s just hoping that Horton’s recovery goes well and we see much more of him in his second season.
