Tom Brady and Peyton Manning built one of the NFL’s most memorable rivalries over the years, going back and forth in games that defined an era. The two legends probably cost each other a few more Super Bowl rings along the way, but mutual respect was always there.
When Mike Macdonald’s name got added to the championship list this month, both quarterbacks made sure to reach out. The Seattle Seahawks head coach opened up about hearing from Brady and Manning after winning his first Super Bowl.

Speaking with Rich Eisen on his show, Macdonald confirmed that both former rivals sent messages his way following the big win. He didn’t get into specifics about what either one said, but he did reveal how the exchange with Brady went.

“Tom Brady text me, that was cool,” Macdonald said. “Peyton Manning.”
He kept the contents private but shared his response to Brady.
“I did tell him, I was like, ‘Hey thanks for stealing our OC.”
That comment had some context behind it. The Las Vegas Raiders just hired Klint Kubiak away from Seattle to be their next head coach. Brady, who now holds a minority ownership stake in Las Vegas, had a hand in making that hire happen.

Macdonald has been rebuilding Seattle since taking over. The Seahawks finished 10-7 in 2024 with Geno Smith at quarterback, though the record fell short of a playoff berth.
The front office made changes after that, parting ways with Smith and bringing in Sam Darnold instead. Darnold had just wrapped up a strong year with the Minnesota Vikings, and the move raised some eyebrows. It ended up working.
