Micky van de Ven’s new contract will be for five years and make him one of the highest earners at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven is on the verge of signing a new lucrative five-year contract until 2031, which includes an option to extend for an additional 12 months. Roberto De Zerbi is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The substantial deal significantly elevates Van de Ven’s financial terms, making him one of the highest-paid players at the club alongside key squad leaders.
Tottenham executives prioritised securing the Dutch centre-back to ward off persistent interest from leading European clubs who had been monitoring his situation and hoping to capitalise on a couple of turbulent seasons in North London.
With the tactical flexibility to operate as both a left-sided centre-back and a full-back, the Netherlands international is poised to lead Tottenham’s defence for years to come, especially with Cristian Romero primed to leave.
By placing Van de Ven in the club’s top wage bracket and securing his commitment until potentially 2032, Tottenham have sent a firm message about their ambition to compete at the highest level.
The Lilywhites also secured Pedro Porro on a new deal earlier this summer to ward off interest from Manchester City and Barcelona, underlining their appeal to key players despite consecutive 17th-place finishes.
However, Spurs must now produce a much stronger 2026/27 campaign under Roberto De Zerbi, who has been significantly backed and with more signings expected.
After beating city rivals Chelsea last time out, Tottenham have won all four of their pre-season games so far ahead of Saturday’s clash with Getafe, after which they will conclude preparations with a home match against Hoffenheim.
