The Detroit area yields more than one quarterback recruit in the 2028 class possessing Power 4 offers, and Michigan is making headway with one up-and-comer out of powerhouse Dearborn Divine Child.
Three-star gunslinger Drew Sheridan, who Rivals ranks within the Top 10 among recruits from Michigan next cycle, is collecting a sought-after offer sheet this offseason. Most of the MAC schools have entered the mix, but so has Penn State, Pitt, Memphis, Southern Miss and others.
The Wolverines could offer him a scholarship in due time as they continue to evaluate Sheridan’s development heading into his junior season and also garnering a personal connection with him.
“Next time I’m there, honestly, I just want to continue to build relationships with everyone in the building,” Sheridan told Maize n Brew. “It’s been nice when I come there that a lot of the staff knows me and just makes me feel like family.”
Sheridan is coming off a spring showcase earlier this month held by Divine Child, and Michigan quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. went out to see him throw. That occurred a little less than a month after Sheridan made a couple stops to Ann Arbor. Along with watching a scrimmage at Schemebechler Hall, Sheridan took to The Big House to see the annual spring game.
“Had a great visit,” Sheridan said. “I know a lot of the guys that were on visit. Some from in the state and others from out of state. I felt like there is a lot of excitement in the air and I felt like the energy has definitely taken a step up this year.”
Sheridan and fellow 2028 in-state quarterback Donald Tabron II were on-hand to see Michigan bring out Bryce Underwood and Tommy Carr, who are local natives as well, in a live game-like setting. Sheridan is all too familiar with the two rostered field generals considering their geographic ties, but especially Carr, who has worked with Sheridan before.
“Bryce and Tommy are both fierce competitors,” Sheridan said. “I’ve in the past two years trained with Tommy quite a bit. Really loved that he went out there with poise on a big stage and just did his thing like he always does. I know when the lights come on this fall and (Underwood) has the full offense under his belt, everyone will see his hard work from the offseason in realtime.”
Detmer provided a welcoming presence to Sheridan and his loved one on both trips, allowing them to get an understanding of who the assistant is from a personal and professional standpoint.
“Couple things that really stood out were that he had watched my film in-depth and had really taken the time to know who I am and how I play,” Sheridan said. “And the most important thing is he wanted to meet my family. I watched the coaches closely at the spring game and I really like how engaged they are with the QBs. Always teaching.”
Sheridan does not have set plans to return to campus, but it’s likely that he will be back in the summer for a camp so Detmer, head coach Kyle Whittingham and others receive another look at his mechanics. The same goes for another appearance at The Big House for game this upcoming season.
“Coach Whittingham is running what appears to be a well organized, super detail oriented program,” Sheridan said. “I’m really excited to see this team in the fall.”
