Aaron Rai produced a phenomenal final round at the PGA Championship to claim his maiden major championship title.

Rai shocked the high-profile field on Sunday at Aronimink, where a long list of players were in contention to lift the trophy at the start of the day.

But none could keep tabs on the Englishman, who carded a five-under 65 to finish three shots ahead of Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley.

Rai ended his week at Aronimink on nine-under, and his performance has now drawn praise from Michael Kim, who also competed at the PGA Championship.

Following his T44 finish on two-over, American Kim posted his “final thoughts” from the PGA Championship on X:

– I got a lot of set up questions so I’ll start there. In general I liked the set up. It was a very unique challenge with the greens and pin locations. But some holes like 8 yesterday was… aggressive. It’s a 205 yd shot into the wind where you had to hit high to have any chance at holding the green from an elevated tee into the wind. Idk what the gir there was but couldn’t have been higher than 15%. My job isn’t to worry about a set up, it’s to shoot the lowest score.

– Another up and down week from me where I had lots of great stretches but too many bad stretches that cost me a higher finish. The OB on 13 Sunday with a 3wd was a real bummer. Just toed it and went OB by 1 yard. 10 and 15 just totally ate my breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were very hard holes if you couldn’t play a cut with your driver.

– Massive congrats to Aaron Rai. Such a nice guy and a hard worker. Makes me want to work harder and a greater belief that I can win majors as well.

– Shoutout to the Philly crowd. They always show up and it was a big crowd the entire week starting on Monday.

– I’m taking one week off before playing Colonial.

Ludvig Aberg congratulates Aaron Rai on PGA Championship win

It’s a fantastic summary from Kim on the setup and his overall display, which continues his regular insight into the professional game.

He deserves huge credit for keeping eager fans in the loop, and indeed for his kind message to his fellow competitor Rai.

But he isn’t the only player to have been left delighted by the champion at Aronimink, with Ludvig Aberg sharing a similar message after his T4 finish.

“Well Aronimink was hard,” Aberg posted on his Instagram. “Cool seeing Aaron win his first major up close, massive congrats! See you all at Colonial!”

Both Aberg and Kim are among the players turning their focus to the Charles Schwab Challenge, which takes place at Colonial Country Club at the end of the month.

First up, however, the 2026 PGA Tour season continues this week with The CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch.

Scottie Scheffler, who finished T14 at the PGA Championship, is in the field and will be out to defend his title from 2025.

The world number one is joined by Rai, with Si Woo Kim and Jordan Spieth among the other names taking part.
