A’Mir Sears reclassified up to the 2027 cycle and will now play his final season of high school football this fall. The five-star prospect is now suiting up for Columbus (Fla.), and on Thursday night, he got to partake in some preseason action for the Explorers.
Taking on Miramar at home, Columbus is looking to get its feet wet before the beginning of the regular season next week. Sears is the straw that stirs the drink on both sides of the ball and he’s looking the part.
The stats don’t count just yet, but the new Miami Hurricanes commit caught a touchdown pass and has also notched a sack:
Sears is the No. 10 overall prospect and No. 2 CB in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also now the No. 2 senior prospect in the Sunshine State.
He began his high school career with West Broward and has 118 total tackles, 12 pass deflections and seven interceptions to his name over the last two years. Now at Columbus, he’ll have a chance to put on a show for a program looking to get back into the upper echelon of Florida high school football.
The Explorers will begin the 2026 season as the No. 41 team in Florida, according to the Rivals Composite Rankings. They’ll open the year against Miami Southridge, with massive tilts vs. Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and St. Thomas Aquinas to follow.
Sears made his commitment to Miami on July 31, just a few days after announcing his reclassification plans. He’s one of four five-stars committed to the Hurricanes this cycle and could play both sides of the ball at the next level, too. One of the best high school football players to come from South Florida in the last few cycles. Very polished in coverage, showing natural ability to stay in-phase with receivers on downfield routes. Has high-level ball skills, as seen in his ability as a wide receiver. Had a very strong sophomore season, catching 42 passes for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns along with three interceptions and 11 pass breakups.
