FOND DU LAC – Jacob and Zach Nemeth won the 48th annual Mercury National Walleye Tournament, hauling in 10 walleyes weighing 28 pounds, 14 ounces, according to a community announcement.
The event, held on Lake Winnebago, brought more than 500 anglers to compete for a prize package that includes a LUND 1875 Impact XS multi‑species fishing boat equipped with a Mercury 150hp Pro XS outboard, a 9.9hp ProKicker, a Lowrance Ghost 52-inch trolling motor, a set of accessories and $5,000 cash.
The tournament, which began in 1978, has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Winnebago walleye and fisheries conservation.
The tournament coincides with Walleye Weekend, a three-day festival that draws more than 50,000 people and benefits dozens of area nonprofit agencies. Net profits provided to participating organizations since 2020 total more than $1.2 million.
Mercury Marine sponsors several events throughout the weekend, and dozens of employees volunteer to help run the event.
“Mercury Marine is proud to once again be a central part of Walleye Weekend and the Mercury National Walleye Tournament, which bring our community together in celebration of fishing, family and fun,” Mercury Marine President John Buelow said, according to the announcement.
“These traditions not only showcase the best of Fond du Lac and our shared passion for the outdoors but also provide a meaningful boost to the local economy by supporting small businesses, tourism and community organizations,” Buelow added.
