HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — Southeastern’s hopes of a Southland Conference Tournament championship opportunity were crushed Sunday afternoon with an 8-5 loss to No. 5 McNeese in the Hammond bracket.
The Cowboys’ offense has been dominant in conference tournament play with 55 total hits, which included 12 in the Hammond bracket final.
McNeese advances to the Southland Conference Tournament championship series next week where they will face No. 2 Lamar in a three game series.
Southeastern now waits for the selection show on Monday, May 25th to see if they have done enough to earn one of the 35 at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament field.
The Lions won 34 games with a Southland conference regular season title and multiple top-ten victories. They had a similar resume last year and barely missed the field of 64.
They entered Sunday’s bracket final, 69th in the NCAA RPI rankings ahead of LSU who was listed at 70.
