The Rangers had a pair of positive injury updates on Tuesday.
Matt Rempe was officially back at practice for the first time since going down with an upper-body injury in October.
Rempe donned a red non-contact jersey, but was working his way into drills.
The big-bodied youngster, of course, sustained the injury during a fight with Ryan Reaves.
He still has some steps to take in his recovery, but will make the trip with the team for Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
“He skated a fair amount with our skill coaches,” Mike Sullivan said. “The next step is to get him around the group in a team setting in a non-contact jersey, that’s what he was today, and then the final step is to get him into game role scenarios.”
In another encouraging development, All-Star defenseman Adam Fox has resumed skating.
Sullivan said that Fox has now skated on his own twice since landing on LTIT with an upper-body injury nine days ago.
There’s still no timeline for his return, but he must miss a minimum 10 games, and Wednesday will officially mark the fifth.
While Fox’s loss hurts, Sullivan is happy with how the Blueshirts have played in his absence.
“The guys have done a good job,” the head coach said. “He’s not an easy guy to replace -- he plays a lot of minutes, helps us with our transition game, just with his ability to move the puck, join the offense, help on the power play, and he defends hard.
“I think the guys that have stepped in have done a real good job as far as bringing what they bring to the lineup, not trying to do too much, playing within themselves.”
