Martin Zubimendi prioritises Real Madrid move over Arsenal

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is reportedly prioritising a move to Real Madrid ahead of Arsenal (h/t Foot Mercato).

The Gunners were prepared to activate his €60 million release clause to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Manager Mikel Arteta views Zubimendi as an ideal fit for his midfield plans.

With Jorginho expected to leave the club, Arsenal were hoping Zubimendi would partner Declan Rice in the middle of the park.

However, the Sociedad star seems intent on staying in La Liga.

Madrid are eager to sign Zubimendi​


The Spanish club are reportedly serious about signing Zubimendi and have already held discussions with his representatives.

They have outlined their long-term plans and how he fits into their squad if he makes the move.


Those talks have gone well, and Zubimendi is now leaning towards a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid are also expected to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool this summer as part of their squad revamp.

Arsenal are eager to strengthen their midfield this summer, so losing out on Zubimendi would be a massive blow.

The Gunners defeated Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this week, but they do not have the same allure as the Spanish club.
