There isn't any sports broadcaster with more catchphrases that work than Bill Raftery.
Even if "Onions!" doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you think about it, the point isn't to think about it too long. It's to appreciate Raftery's love of college basketball.
The long-time NCAA hoops announcer for CBS is back at it again this weekend at the Final Four.
And before the action tipped off, Raftery had a stunning revelation: He's older than everyone thinks.

How old is Bill Raftery?
If you look it up, the Internet will tell you that Raftery is 82.
He says he's old.
This is what Raftery told Awful Announcing:
"I've never said my age and people wrote it down and have it wrong. I've never corrected anybody, but it's actually comical. I've got a couple more on me. You're the first to ever heart that."
This was at least partially in relation to the idea of Raftery potentially retiring soon.
"I think they'll tell me," Raftery said, suggesting CBS will ask him to step down before he himself would want to. "But for now, if they're happy with me, I enjoy the heck out of it. I'd probably be bored to death if I was sitting home. For now, hopefully, they're happy and it will stay the same for another 10 years."
Raftery is certainly a large part of the soundtrack of college basketball. The sport will be different whenever he departs.
In the meantime, appreciate the ageless wonder this weekend during the Final Four. There's no one like him.
