Maple Leafs fans find funny Auston Matthews-Gavin McKenna parallel originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Auston Matthews is going to have new company as a Toronto Maple Leafs No. 1 overall pick.
Will it be Gavin McKenna? That's the assumption, but it's not a given, and it depends a bit on which draft rankings you look at.
Maple Leafs fans were having fun with the disparities on Wednesday as The Athletic's Corey Pronman released his ranks.
On that list, McKenna actually ranked fourth, behind three defensemen.
It felt a bit crazy, and it prompted fans to go back and look at some of Pronman's other takes.
Those include, ironically, Pronman saying 10 years ago that Patrik Laine would be better than Matthews.
That didn't happen, of course.

Obviously, not every evaluation is created equal. Every draft analyst gets some right and gets some wrong.
That Matthews take from a decade ago was certainly incorrect.
There's a decent chance that ranking McKenna only fourth in this draft class is wrong, too.
The Maple Leafs, if they pick McKenna, will certainly hope he works out better than being the fourth-best player in this class.
