Napheesa Collier appears set to remain at the heart of the Minnesota Lynx’s championship pursuit. That’s despite persistent speculation surrounding her future. As the WNBA trade deadline approaches, the All-WNBA forward has been the subject of leaguewide interest due to her expiring contract. That has fueled rumors that Minnesota could explore a blockbuster move or that Collier might seek a new destination in free agency. However, insider Alexa Philippou reported that the prevailing expectation around the league is that Collier will finish the 2026 season with the Lynx.
“Napheesa Collier is a player that a lot of people were interested in,” Philippou said. “Would she end up moving because of those rumblings about maybe her wanting to look elsewhere beyond Minnesota or her being on an expiring contract? Around the league, people are saying they think she will be in Minnesota for the rest of this season.”
For a franchise firmly in championship mode, that is hardly surprising. Minnesota has assembled one of the deepest and most balanced rosters in the WNBA. Moving a player of Collier’s caliber would significantly diminish its title hopes. Philippou reinforced that point, noting the Lynx are legitimate championship contenders with Collier leading the way. Sure, her impending free agency will remain a major offseason storyline. However, Minnesota’s immediate focus is chasing another WNBA championship. Holding onto its franchise cornerstone preserves the leadership and two-way dominance that have defined the Lynx throughout the season.
Minnesota has been the WNBA’s benchmark in 2026. They enter August with a league-best 24-6 record under longtime head coach Cheryl Reeve. The Lynx own one of the league’s most explosive offenses at 92.2 points per game. They are riding a nine-game winning streak after consecutive victories over the Toronto Tempo.
