Just hours before the MLB trade deadline, the Pirates added one of the best relief pitchers on the market to their bullpen.
Pittsburgh announced on Monday that it has acquired pitcher Luke Weaver and cash considerations from the Mets in exchange for infielder Sammy Stafura.
One of the most reliable relievers in baseball, Weaver has a 1.84 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 44 innings this season. He is under contract through the 2027 season.

The Pirates have shipped Stafura to the Mets as part of a deadline deal that brings Weaver to Pittsburgh.
The No. 9 prospect in the Pirates' system, Stafura was one of the players sent from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh in the Ke'Bryan Hayes trade. Stafura has a .276/.367/.593 slash line and a .960 OPS in 60 minor league games between Bradenton and Greensboro. He has hit 20 home runs with 54 RBIs across A and High-A.
Per the New York Post's Joel Sherman, the Mets are taking on $2 million of Weaver's contract this year and $6 million next year.

Weaver became one of the Mets' most reliable relievers in just a few months. He has allowed nine earned runs this season and just one earned run since May 1.
